What size should an Instagram post be?
Use 1080×1350 pixels (4:5) for portrait feed posts, 1080×1440 (3:4) to match how the profile grid now previews posts, 1080×1080 for square, 1080×566 for landscape, and 1080×1920 (9:16) for stories and reels. This tool resizes photos to any of these, padding or cropping as you choose.

- Pick the post type.
- Choose “Keep whole photo” to pad, or “Fill the frame” to crop.
- Add photos and download them, or all at once as a ZIP.
Which size for product posts
Portrait 4:5 takes the most room in the feed, and 3:4 matches the profile grid preview, so a 3:4 post shows uncropped on your profile. Square is safest when you are unsure.
Keep text off the edges
For stories and reels, keep prices and text away from the top and bottom, where the app’s own buttons and captions sit.
Questions
- What is the best Instagram post size?
- 1080×1350 for the feed or 1080×1440 to match the 3:4 profile grid. Both are 1080 pixels wide, which is the width Instagram displays.
- Why does Instagram crop my photo?
- Feed posts outside its supported ratios are cropped, and the grid previews posts at 3:4. Resizing to a supported ratio first avoids surprise crops.
- What size is an Instagram story?
- 1080×1920 pixels, a 9:16 ratio. Reels use the same size.
