How is volumetric weight calculated?

Volumetric weight in kg = length × width × height in cm ÷ 5000, the divisor most Indian couriers use. Couriers bill the higher of the volumetric weight and the actual weight, usually rounded up to the next slab. A 30 × 25 × 5 cm parcel is 0.75 kg volumetric, even if it weighs only 0.4 kg.

How to use it

  1. Measure the packed parcel, not the product.
  2. Enter length, width and height, in cm or inches.
  3. Enter the actual weight in kg.
  4. Read the chargeable weight, and the next 0.5 kg slab.

Why packaging size matters for clothing

Garments are light, so bulky packing is often what you pay for. Folding tighter and using a flyer instead of a box can drop a parcel into a lower slab. Measure a packed sample to see how much it saves.

Which divisor to use

Most surface and air couriers in India use 5000, and some use 4000 or 6000. Your rate card states the one that applies, so choose it from the list if yours differs.

Questions

How do I calculate volumetric weight in inches?
Choose inches and the calculator converts for you. By hand, multiply each side by 2.54 first, then multiply the three and divide by 5000.
What is chargeable weight?
It is the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. That is the figure a courier bills against its weight slabs.
Does Meesho shipping use this formula?
Meesho calculates shipping on its own systems and rules, so treat this as a guide to parcel size. Your Supplier Panel shows the real charge for a listing.
