How do I calculate GST on a price?
To add GST, multiply the price by (1 + rate ÷ 100): ₹1,000 at 18% becomes ₹1,180. To remove GST from an inclusive price, divide by (1 + rate ÷ 100): ₹1,180 including 18% GST is ₹1,000 plus ₹180 GST. Within a state the tax splits equally into CGST and SGST; between states it is IGST.

Questions
- How do I remove GST from a price?
- Divide the GST-inclusive price by 1 plus the rate. For 5%, divide by 1.05; for 18%, divide by 1.18. The difference is the GST.
- What is CGST and SGST?
- For a sale within one state, GST is split equally between the central (CGST) and state (SGST) governments. For a sale to another state, the whole amount is IGST.
- Is this tax advice?
- No. It does the arithmetic. Rates depend on your product’s HSN code, so confirm them with an accountant.
