How do I calculate profit and fees on Amazon India?

Amazon profit per order = selling price − referral fee (a % of price) − closing fee − weight handling or shipping fee − 18% GST on those fees − GST in your price − product cost − packaging, then adjusted for returns. Enter the rates from your Seller Central fee schedule and the calculator shows your settlement, profit, margin and break-even price.

How to use it

  1. Enter your selling price, product cost, packaging and the GST rate on your product.
  2. Look up your category’s referral fee % and closing fee in Seller Central.
  3. Enter the weight handling (Easy Ship) or your own shipping cost.
  4. Add your return rate and what a return costs you.

The fees Amazon charges a seller

An Amazon.in sale typically carries a referral fee, a percentage of the selling price that depends on the category and price; a closing fee, a fixed amount by price band and fulfilment channel; and, for Easy Ship or FBA, a weight handling fee that depends on weight and whether delivery is local, regional or national. GST at 18% applies to these fees.

Worked example (hypothetical)

A ₹799 kurta costing ₹380, with ₹15 packaging, 5% GST in the price, an 18% referral fee, ₹20 closing fee and ₹65 shipping: fees come to ₹270.01 including 18% GST, GST in the price is ₹38.05, so profit if delivered is ₹95.94. At a 10% return rate and ₹90 per return, expected profit is about ₹77.35 per order.

TCS and TDS are not costs

Amazon withholds TCS under GST and TDS under section 194-O from settlements. Both are credited against your tax, so they affect cash flow but not profit, and the calculator leaves them out.

Fulfilled by Amazon instead?

FBA adds pick and pack, storage and inbound shipping. Use the Amazon FBA calculator for that model.

Questions

What is the Amazon referral fee in India?
It is a percentage of the total selling price that varies by category and sometimes by price band. Read your category’s current rate in Seller Central, because Amazon revises the schedule.
Does Amazon charge GST on its fees?
Yes. Amazon’s fees attract 18% GST. A GST-registered seller can usually claim it as input credit; untick the GST option in the calculator if you do.
Is this Amazon’s official calculator?
No. DrapifyApp is independent. Amazon offers its own Revenue Calculator in Seller Central; this tool adds returns and break-even price, using rates you enter.
